COLONIAL HEIGHTS, VA. – Every once in a while, it’s not your night. On Saturday, that was the case for the Tri-City Chili Peppers (4-12) as they dropped their fourth in a row, and third straight to the Peninsula Pilots (12-3).
The Pilots opened the game with back-to-back six hit, seven run innings in the first and the second. They tacked on two runs in the top of the fifth, one in the eighth and in the ninth.
While the result was not what the Chili Peppers had hoped for, the team was not short of big performances.
Lead off man and right fielder Wilson Galvan (South Carolina) put together a 4-5 night with two solo home runs, as well as an RBI single in the fourth to cap off a 3 RBI showing. The two homers moved Galvan up to four on the summer.
Hunter Gilliam (Longwood) added a home run in the second straight home game with a solo shot to right field in the first inning. The right handed slugger now has three long balls on the season.
For the pitching staff, Jaden Griffin (VCU) made his team debut to the tune of 2.1 innings of work, allowed just one hit and tallied four strikeouts.
Jimmy Starnes (University of Richmond) also made his first appearance of the season and tossed a scoreless sixth. He was followed by Andrew Weight (James Madison) who notched in second consecutive scoreless stint.
The Chili Peppers get to catch their breath over the next two days before jumping back into action on Tuesday night at Shepherd Stadium for a doubleheader with the Wilson Tobs.
