The Tri-City Chili Peppers competed in split squad action for the second Saturday in a row, again splitting 1-1. The alter ego Chilly Peppers blanked the Norfolk Redbirds 12-0 while the regular Chili Peppers were blanked for the first time in CPL play this season by the Martinsville Mustangs.
Colonial Heights, VA – The Tri-City Chilly Peppers, the alter ego of the Chili Peppers, run-ruled the Norfolk Redbirds in seven innings by a score of 12-0.
Brendan McComber, the Peppers’s starter out of Mary Washington, tallied seven strikeouts through four innings. Karson Jennings came in relief for McComber and recorded two strikeouts of his own.
Matt Kinne (Hamilton) launched his first homer of the summer in the third inning. It was the only homer of the night for either squad.
Cade Swisher also had a big night at the plate for Tri-City, tallying two hits, one being a two-RBI double in the third inning, one of four three-run innings for the Peppers.
Overall, the Redbirds were only able to accumulate three total hits, one coming in the first inning and two coming in the fifth. A total of eleven Redbirds struck out in the game.
The Chilly Peppers will be back in action in an exhibition game at Shepherd Stadium this upcoming Tuesday, June 13, against the Native American Warriors at 10:30am.

Martinsville, VA- For the second game in a row the Chili Peppers dropped a game to a previously winless team, falling in a 6-0 decision to the Martinsville Mustangs Saturday at Hooker Field. Tri City (7-3) managed just two hits on the night while Martinsville (1-3) scored runs in each of their last three innings.
Zach Abbey (Northwood) made his second start of the season and was solid, giving up three runs over six innings but took the loss with no run support. Krew Bouldin (Delaware State) recorded one of the two Tri-City hits extending his personal hit streak to six games. Chili Peppers batters struck out 12 times and have struck out at least ten times in each of their last five games.
